Chloral

Chlorāl, farblose, scharf riechende Flüssigkeit vom Siedepunkt 94° und spez. Gewicht 1,502, durch Einwirken von Chlor auf Alkohol gewonnen, mischt sich mit Wasser und bildet damit das Chlorālhydrāt, farblose, bei 57° schmelzende Kristalle von eigentümlichem Geruch und scharfem Geschmack, in Wasser leicht löslich; wird durch Alkalien in Chloroform und Ameisensäure zerlegt, dient zur Darstellung sehr reinen Chloroforms und als Schlaf- und Beruhigungsmittel. Wegen seiner giftigen Nebenwirkungen (s. Chloralvergiftung) häufig ersetzt durch Chloralammonium, farblose Nadeln vom Schmelzpunkt 84°, Chloralformamid (Chloralamid), geruchlose Kristalle, die bei 115° schmelzen, offizinell, Chloralimid, kristallinisches Pulver, alle drei in Wasser kaum löslich, und Chloralose, aus C. und Traubenzucker, bitter schmeckende Nadeln vom Schmelzpunkt 184-186°.
